Director campaigning for the protection of the environment, Lucas Hobé turns into Mayenne His first animal report. In his viewfinder, that ofEric Medard.
Lucas Hobé has been living in Mayenne for fifteen years and was a journalist in the written press before turning to television.
I started with the news but I got tired of it pretty quickly. I wanted to invest myself in the magazine format. I am very attached to the protection of the environment and I want to serve this cause, which is rarely possible in the context of a television news.
The director and journalist tackled a 26-minute medium-length documentary film. “There are many animal films shot on the other side of the world. People know what a tiger is, but do not necessarily know what a marten looks like, although it lives in our regions. “
A rich and fascinating fauna on our doorstep
“I wanted to show that near us live an exciting fauna. I didn’t want to report directly on animals, but on someone who knows these animals. So I thought of Eric Médard, a naturalist photographer from Mayenne recognized nationally and internationally.
A project that almost fell through
However, the shooting had started badly. “It was the first day, we were on floating hides on the Juvigné pond. My hide was out of balance and my equipment fell into the water. I wanted to change it, but, well… ”
One goal can hide another
The photographer quickly got used to being in front of the lens.
Lucas quickly assimilated the instructions to follow if you want to see animals. He was also courageous, because you often have to get up very early, and patient, because you don’t make an appointment with the animals.
However, the presence of a novice in animal reporting has sometimes brought luck to Eric Médard: “One day we went“ to the badger ”, a discreet animal, which rarely walks in pairs. And, while he does not live much in society, we were able to observe a group of them. It was Lucas’ beginner’s luck. “
Tons of rushes
The director is delighted with the recordings he was able to make.
We shot in the spring, a big period of activity for the animals, and will be doing a few more sessions this summer. I am considering editing and postproduction in the fall. It looks complicated because I have tons of rushes.
The dissemination of Within reach of the savage is scheduled for the end of the year.
To support the postproduction of the film, Lucas Hobé set up a campaign to crowdfunding. The objective is to collect 9,400 euros in mid-July. The author will enter the name of all the contributors in the credits of the film.
